Introduction to Student Development in
Hwa Chong Institution (College Section)

With our seamless 6-year Integrated Programme (IP), we have adopted for our Student Development Programme, a cross-disciplinary quotient-centric approach (IQ, EQ and AQ), driven by students' creativity, self-direction, and leadership. The mission of Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) is to develop leaders in research, industry and government. Our aim is to build students' character and to develop their leadership potential during their formative years. We hope also to inculcate in all our students a love for the nation and zest for life.

For the 6 years, students will undergo:

Exploration of Interest - Years 1 to 2,
Development of Passion - Years 3 to 4, and
Consolidation of Knowledge - Years 5 to 6.

Under Consolidation of Knowledge, students will go through programmes organised by the 3 pillars of the Student Development Department: Guidance Education, Character Education and Leadership Education.

Guidance Education:  A unit that supports and empowers students to pursue their passions through informed decisions e.g. Careers Hours, University Admission Talks and Workshops and timely Education and Career Guidance (ECG) Counselling.

Character Education:  A unit that cultivates the habits of mind necessary for the holistic development of the Hwa Chong leader, who lives with passion and leads with compassion e.g. Student Enrichment Modules, Community Involvement Programme (CIP) Service-Learning Projects, National Education and Outdoor Education.

Leadership Education:  A unit that enhances the leadership capacity of students through exposure to a diverse range of social, political and cultural contexts e.g. Political Leaders Attachment Programme, Overseas Exchange Programme, Community Service Programme and Mentoring Schemes.
